Electric Warmth, Acoustic Fire

Ibanez Debuts Three Different "Double Edge" Guitars

S2020X

June 1, 2000 -- Touted as the guitars that "cut both ways…with the fire of an electric or the warmth of an acoustic," Ibanez’ new Double Edge guitars debuted at the January NAMM show in Los Angeles.

"The Double Edge bridge combines the Ibanez Lo-Pro Edge double-locking tremolo with piezo technology from L. R. Baggs, explained a description from Ibanez R&D. "So instead of switching your electric guitar to an acoustic guitar, you simply flick a switch and get the best of both worlds."It took Ibanez five years to make the first bridge that combined piezo pickups with a Floyd Rose licensed locking tremolo, but Ibanez feels the end result justified the time and efforts. One of the problems they had to overcome with piezo pickups were the annoying pops and noises that occur when a player’s hand touches the bridge. Ibanez says that doesn’t happen with the Double Edge bridge: "We completely isolated the piezos so you can palm the bridge for days and all you’ll hear is the acoustic sound of the strings."

Ibanez is offering two six string and one seven-string Double Edge guitars.
